We had a BLAST 2016
Kids Central, Inc.’s annual BLAST was held May 6th at Bullitt Park. KCI invited families to enjoy a day with their child to celebrate the hard work both have dedicated this program year. Activities included face painting, groovy flowers, lava bottles, making healthy trail mix and tie dye tote-bags to celebrate our theme a Groovy BLAST. The local rescue squad and fire truck were also on display for families and children to explore. Several Kids Central partners from the community set up vendor tables to assist our families in getting resources. WIC, Health Dept. car seat program, Wise County Schools, Health Connect, and MEOC to name a few. Families were then able to sit down to lunch with their child’s classroom and enjoy pizza from Pizza King.
Introducing Our New Comptroller, Joseph Boyd
I am proud to serve on the Kids Central team. In 2005 my son, Matthew, was a student and his progress today is attributed to the great program training he received from the staff at Kids Central. I currently live in Haysi Virginia. I graduated from Haysi High School in 1991; Southwest Virginia Community College where I received several associate degrees; and Clinch Valley College, now UVA Wise in 1998 with a Bachelor of Arts in Government concentrating in Public Administration. I completed an MBA at King University in 2011 and I anticipate completing Doctorate in Management at Argosy University Nashville by 2018.

The HighScope Curriculum
Here at Kids Central, Inc. we use what is called The HighScope Curriculum. This curriculum is child focused and based on “active participatory learning” which leads to powerful, positive outcomes. This curriculum also helps young children excel in language and cognitive learning but it also promotes independence, curiosity, decision-making, cooperation, persistence, creativity and problem solving -- the fundamental skills that determine success in adult life. This is what makes the HighScope Curriculum different but also successful.
Learn more about the HighScope Curriculum at highscope.org.
